Organizations stand for femicide Marisela Ortiz Escobedo

Human Rights Organizations condemn the murder of the Defenders Susana Chavez and Marisela Escobedo

• We demand justice and responses to violence and murder to defenders of human rights

The undersigned organizations strongly repudiate the killing of human rights defender Susana Chávez, a tireless fighter against women in Ciudad Juárez. This atrocity occurs less than a month after the murder of activist Marisela Escobedo- occurred while demanding justice for the murder of his daughter in 2008 - also condemn murder with the same indignation.

Given the heinous murders of women in recent days in Mexico, affecting among other women, advocates and human rights activists Marisela Escobedo and Susana Chavez, Health Network of Latin American and Caribbean Women, RSMLAC , as a regional movement that articulates the health of women, expresses anger, frustration and anger against the new violence macho continue to form the painful statistics on crimes against women in that country.

Mexico is a case study, such as Guatemala and other nations in our region, where for years we have been witnessing the most brutal escalation of violence against women, a phenomenon that can not be detached from the exacerbation of social conflicts in the context of neoliberal capitalist globalization, and where an increase in femicide is a very clear indicator of the intensification of violence material and symbolic that falls on women's bodies.

In this context, it must make it clear that organized crime gangs drug trafficking, its close collusion with the apparatus of power, plus the implementation of national security policies to address the crime that been developed as military occupation and territory police, have done nothing but deepen the practice of gender-based violence with a cruelty rarely known, and whose victims are mostly poor young women.

With 20 votes in favor, 11 against and 2 abstentions, the National System to Prevent, Treat, Punishment and Eradication Violence decided to declare inadmissible the application of violence alert gender in the State of Mexico by the cases of femicide.

This determination, without attachment to an awareness of gender, and ethical responsibility to respect human rights of women and girls, was ignoring all international treaties on human rights of women and conventions our country has signed in the matter, and ignoring the obligation of Women's Institutes across the country to defend and promote human rights of women and girls.

This decision shows that gross violations of human rights of women in our country are not a priority for most states, those who serve you away immediately and seek to establish urgent action to prevent violence against women and girls prefer to protect the political interests of their rulers.

The application of gender alert issued by the National Citizens' Watch Femicide and the Mexican Commission for the Defense and Promotion of Human Rights of Women was supported with official data from State of Mexico (Procuraduría General Justice of the State Human Rights Commission of the State, among others) demonstrates that there are alarming levels of violence against women, a systematic pattern of violence femicide and a context of impunity in these cases.
